Brooks Depro currently serves as an Associate Professor of Economics at Elon University. Before joining Elon, he spent 20 years at RTI International, a nonprofit research institute in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Brooks is also a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Dr. Depro serves as a faculty advisor for the B.S.B.A. program in Business Economics & Consulting. Dr. Depro is also a member of the advisory board for the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) minor.
His research focuses on teaching economics, the market process, and the environment. His recent teaching contributions on moral questions raised by economic tradeoffs, environmental economics, and business economics & consulting appear in the International Review of Economics Education and the Journal of Economics Teaching. The Martha and Spencer Love School of Business has recognized him with the Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching, which honors a faculty member who exemplifies the Elon University teacher-scholar model.
Research Interests
Dr. Depro's research spans three areas: environmental and resource economics, with a focus on environmental justice, residential mobility, and pollution regulation; labor and regional economics, including manufacturing employment and spatial inequality; and economics education, with work on active learning, case-based pedagogy, and student mindset.
